I wore out the keys of a KX-TG6542 in about 2 1/2 years, which is typical because I use these phones several times a day and I have a heavy hand and heavy fingers. This newer replacement/upgrade not only has bigger keys but an increased capacity for the Call Block feature where the KX-TG6542 had a capacity to block only 30 numbers. The phonebook of this upgraded model also has increased capacity over its predecessor. The Speed Dial feature has also returned to the newer unit as I missed it from its predecessor. The noise reduction works well. The back-up operation is a worthwile feature and the display and call announcements work well. I sent my older unit, (base and both handsets), back for repair/exchange as it will be a good spare when the keyboards wear out on these handsets in 2 1/2 years. I've used many different Panasonic cordless units over the years with keyboard dialability and speakerphone capability on the base unit as well as the handsets and I like the versatility of being able to hold a conversation on speakerphone or use the handset as well as for dialing numbers. They may not be the cheapest but they are good value for the money.-JONNY 1 NYC

When it is set for call screening it answers and plays back the caller's voice. When a handset is used to answer the call it still receives the voice from the caller but does not transmit the answerers voice back to the caller. The message recording stops when attempting to answer the call. It works as a message recording device but is useless as a call screening device.
